Apple seems to be infested with worms. Just a month after the nude celebrity photos leaked, Apple is already dealing with another controversy on their hands on the other side of the globe. According to this article from AdWeek, Apple users in China have downloaded around 400 “infected apps 350,000 times” which equates to a shit ton of phones with viruses, which is definitely not good for Apple who is still trying to clean up their image after everyone and their mother has seen Jennifer Lawrence’s naked image.
I think what bums me out the most about all of this is that in my brain, I’m thinking, “wow, maybe my information isn’t safe with Apple, maybe I should switch over to another phone or computer,” but then my heart screams out, “NO!” because I love Apple products and don’t want to ever cheat on this relationship we have going. Its interesting to me that Apple is now under attack from a virus, when I remember growing up, the reason I thought Apple was so great was because it seemed like every computer except Apple got viruses. I supposed phones are a different story.
The thing is that I don’t believe Apple could really do anything at this point to change Apple consumers’ minds about their products. Dozens of women’s security and intimacy breached? Buy the new iPhone 6. Thousands of people in China phones become infected with a virus that is capable of stealing a variety of information? Patiently wait until the iPhone 7 comes out in two years. Even though there is harsh criticism of Apple, I will be amazed if the day ever comes when devoted iPhonees make the switch over the Samsung Galaxy, or whatever other phone is a major competitor nowadays (I frankly have no idea).
Do you think it would be a good idea for Apple to make some type of ad-announcement to try to apologize for their wrongdoings? Or should they keep on just showing how awesome the movie editing capabilities are on the iPhone 6?
Do you think that people, if these type of security issues keep arising, will switch from iPhone to something else?
Also, do you think that privacy with our data on our phones is going to become a bigger problem in the world? Why or why not?
