Who doesn’t love watching their favorite shows anytime, anywhere on any device. It’s no secret the millennial generation wants what they want and they want it now. This includes watching TV! Netflix has become one of the top streaming services in its category.
Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings founded Netflix in Scotts Valley, California in 1997. Hastings thought of the idea of Netflix when he was forced to pay $40 in fines after returning an overdue movie rental. After investing some millions of dollars, Hastings and Randolph launched the Netflix website on August 29, 1997. The company started out as an online pay-per-rental model, but quickly dropped the idea in 2000. Since then Netflix has built its brand on the concept of a “flat-free unlimited rental without due dates, late fees, shipping and handling fees, or per title rental fees.”
Netflix continues to grow as a company and has gained millions of loyal “customers”. Netflix is known for its wide variety of content, convenience, flat rate, original content, customizability, commercial free and its ongoing recommendations. Netflix stays true to its fans by “developing and maintaining an extensive personalized video-recommendation system based on ratings and reviews by its customers.” Netflix has always done a good job of putting up a series after the season has ended. I can always count on Netflix to have the rest of the season of a show I am watching. Plus at only $7.99 per month how can you pass that up? It’s endless amounts of TV watching for only $8 per month, now that’s a deal!
One of the best parts about Netflix is the ability to watch anytime, anywhere. In a recent survey I did for a class one of the top reasons why students use this streaming service is the ability to watch “in between busy times.” In today’s society, individuals are constantly on the go, leading busy lives with various schedules for different days. These individuals need quiet time to relax and escape from their hectic lifestyles. With the help of Netflix, people are able to sit and watch their favorite show during lunch or a break or in between classes. Netflix gives them an opportunity to immerse themselves into a show and take a step back from their day for even just a short amount of time.
Netflix started as an idea and has turned into this multi-billion dollar corporation. Even though Netflix has turned into something huge it’s the few minutes from a show that can ease a viewer.
How many of you watch Netflix?
